The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has opened public consultations on diarsenic trioxide, and lead chromate pigments Yellow 34 and Red 104. The consultations for applications for authorization will close on April 9, 2014. Contributions are being invited for feasible alternatives to the uses applied for as soon as possible.
ECHA received four applications for authorization for the uses of diarsenic trioxide, lead sulfochromate yellow (C.I. Pigment Yellow 34) and lead chromate molybdate sulphate red (C.I. Pigment Red 104).
Substances that are subject to authorization under REACH may not be manufactured or used in the EU unless the specific use has been authorized to a company that applies for authorization and has been authorized to do so. Authorization can be extended to an immediate supplier and to downstream users who source the chemical from this company. Note that authorization does not apply to substances in articles.
