EU Public Consultations Launched for Applications for Authorization

europe-1395913_960_720The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has announced a public consultation for three applications for authorization. These included two substances, covering a total of four uses:

  • Chromium trioxide (EC: 215-607-8): This is used as a pre-treatment step (also known as etching) during the electroplating process. It is also used for electroplating various types of substances in order to create long-lasting, highly durable surfaces with matte or bright (shiny) looks
  • Sodium dichromate (EC: 234-190-3): This is used in molten bath form in order to modify surfaces, particularly by blackening, of delicate medical products (specifically micro-surgical instruments). This is also used as mordant in wood dyeing
