Purpose:

Lead the next era of engineering at Compliance & Risks

At Compliance & Risks, we help global companies bring products to market faster, more safely, and with less risk. Our platform powers product compliance and market access for some of the world’s leading brands, helping them navigate complex regulatory environments with confidence.

We are looking for a VP of Engineering to lead our engineering organisation into its next chapter of scale, impact, and innovation.

This is a role for a leader who knows how to build great teams, great systems, and great engineering cultures — and who also understands that engineering leadership is changing fast. The best candidate will be excited by the opportunities created by AI-assisted and agentic software development, while also bringing a clear-eyed view of the challenges it creates in real production environments: maintainability, reliability, security, architectural coherence, and operational trust.

You will shape how modern engineering is practiced at Compliance & Risks: how we build, how we scale, how we lead, and how we use emerging technologies responsibly to create long-term advantage.

What you’ll do

As VP of Engineering, you will lead the engineering organisation with a strong balance of strategic vision, technical judgment, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Set the direction for the engineering organisation, aligning structure, priorities, and execution with company strategy.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Security, and Executive leadership to help shape roadmap, investment decisions, and company priorities.
  • Build and develop a high-performing leadership team across engineering management and senior technical leadership.
  • Create the conditions for teams to move quickly while maintaining high standards for quality, reliability, and security.
  • Lead the adoption of modern AI-assisted and agentic development practices in a way that improves engineering effectiveness without creating long-term risk.
  • Establish the guardrails, operating practices, and technical standards for using coding agents responsibly in production software development.
  • Drive engineering excellence across architecture, developer experience, observability, resilience, operational ownership, and platform maturity.
  • Ensure engineering is a trusted strategic partner across the business, known for strong execution, sound judgment, and measurable impact.
  • Own engineering budget, headcount planning, and resource allocation to support both near-term delivery and long-term scale.

Requirements:

  • What makes this role different
  • This is not a traditional VP of Engineering role.
  • We are looking for someone who understands that the future of software development is not just about adding AI tools to existing workflows. It is about rethinking how engineering teams operate when code generation becomes easier, but system quality does not.
  • You should have a strong point of view on questions like:
  • How do teams use agentic coding tools productively without creating brittle systems or hidden technical debt?
  • How do you maintain strong engineering judgment when more code is produced faster than ever?
  • How do you preserve maintainability, reliability, and security when AI changes the shape of software delivery?
  • What platform investments, review standards, and team habits are needed to make AI-native engineering sustainable?
  • This role is for a leader who is excited by those questions and ready to build the answer in practice.
  • What we’re looking for
  • You are an experienced engineering executive with a track record of building strong organisations and delivering real business outcomes through technology.
  • You likely bring:
  • Significant experience leading engineering organisations at scale, including leading through managers and directors.
  • A strong record of building high-performing teams and coaching engineering leaders through growth and change.
  • Comfortable staying close to the work, helping teams make good technical decisions, remove blockers, and delivering meaningful results.
  • Deep technical credibility and the judgment to guide architecture, engineering quality, reliability, and platform evolution.
  • Experience with AWS, React/NextJS, Java, and Python.
  • Experience in modern SaaS, cloud-native, and product-led technology environments.
  • A clear understanding of how AI-assisted and agentic development is reshaping engineering, along with a practical view of its benefits, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Experience creating strong engineering systems: clear ownership, healthy operating rhythms, delivery discipline, technical standards, and effective cross-functional collaboration.
  • A strong understanding of production engineering challenges, including observability, incident management, resilience, security, and compliance.
  • The ability to balance speed with durability, innovation with discipline, and autonomy with accountability.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence at every level, from engineers to executives to board-level stakeholders.
  • You’ll thrive in this role if you
  • Believe the best engineering organisations combine ambition with discipline.
  • Care deeply about building teams and shipping software.
  • Know how to create clarity in fast-moving environments.
  • Are energized by new technology, but grounded in what it takes to run production systems well.
  • Can spot the difference between short-term acceleration and long-term capability.
  • Lead with high standards, strong trust, and low ego.
  • Want to help define what modern engineering leadership looks like in the AI era.

The Perks:

  • A competitive salary, company bonus, health insurance, pension, wellbeing programme
  • An exciting and dynamic role with career development opportunities and progression
  • The opportunity to work with talented and diverse team in an inclusive work environment
  • A learning culture where continued learning & development is supported and encouraged
  • Remote working options and a flexible environment that promotes wellness and work life balance

Company Highlights:

  • 20-30% YoY revenue growth since 2017
  • Established global offices
  • Top private equity sponsorship from Luminate Capital Partners
  • 70,000+ regulations and standards on the platform
  • A marketing leading retention rate over 95%
