Details of this enacted Bill are included in the Source entitled “California (USA): Prohibition of Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in Food Packaging, and Cookware Labelling, Assembly Bill 1200 Enacted, 2021”.

This Bill, which entered into force on 1 January 2022 includes the following compliance deadlines:

  1. 1st January 2023
    From this date, manufacturers shall not make a claim (on the internet website for the cookware) that the cookware is free of any specific chemical if the chemical belongs to a chemical group or class identified on the designated list, unless no individual chemical from that chemical group or class is intentionally added to the cookware.

    Manufacturers of cookware sold in California that contain one or more intentionally added chemicals present on the designated list in the handle of the product or in any cookware surface that comes into contact with food, foodstuffs, or beverages shall post on the internet website for the cookware, all of requirements per Section 109012.
  2. 1st January 2024
    From this date, all manufacturers of cookware sold in the state that contains one or more intentionally added chemicals present on the designated list in the handle of the product or in any product surface that comes into contact with food, foodstuffs, or beverages shall list the presence of those chemicals on the product while also satisfying the labelling requirements set out in Section 109011(a)

    Manufacturers shall not make a claim (on the cookware package) that the cookware is free of any specific chemical if the chemical belongs to a chemical group or class identified on the designated list, unless no individual chemical from that chemical group or class is intentionally added to the cookware.
