Accelerating Product Compliance Processes…
Back in 2019, Marion’s team was tasked with the strategic ownership of product compliance for the organization. Aiming to create a ‘Compliance repository’, her team worked to populate a spreadsheet, which mapped all of Geotab’s 200 products across 183 countries, their relevant regulations & documentary evidence that Geotab complied with those regulations.
This quickly became a herculean task that proved unmanageable in the long term. The team was overwhelmed with the amount of research required to understand which regulations applied to their business and they were still so far from where they were aiming to be with their compliance efforts.

- Identifying relevant regulations on complex government websites in different local languages was not practical.
- Interpreting regulations was too difficult for a non-legal team to interpret.
- Maintaining compliance evidence documentation (certifications and reports) that help prove they meet a regulation was an issue since they lived historically across different drives.
- Staying informed about evidence expiration to plan ahead was not possible since there was no way to figure out if a certain document is going to be expired in X years.
The tipping point for them to start looking for a better solution was when they couldn’t validate the accuracy of the information on the spreadsheet with the existing resources in the team.
